Our Story

When I began my career as a practitioner in professional sport years ago, I greatly underestimated just how much of my job would be dealing with pain. Along with helping athletes get stronger, move better, run faster, and jump higher, a majority of my time is spent simply working through the complexities of chronic joint pain and its effects on movement efficiency.

The thing about joint pain (and pain in general) is that our body, an amazing biological machine, simply learns to accommodate it. Because pain can be insidious and can come from many different things, our body has masterful defenses against it and simply learns to deal with it.

The cost of dealing with chronic joint pain, or pain of any kind, can be large. Your movement patterns change, usually causing more issues. But also, the affects on your mood can be very real. Not to mention pain impacting your ability to do your favorite activities (or in some cases any activity).

What is AlloVitae?

As I have learned and developed my understanding and approach to solving the complex problems associated with joint pain and movement dysfunction, I have simultaneously observed people close to me vary wildly in their quality of life - some managing rather well, and others deteriorating to tragic, untimely passings. The irony is that the wide differences in my friends' and family's quality of life is due in large part to the very things I’ve spent my life focusing on improving for so many other people - joint pain, movement, and its effect on your health.

And so, as is so common in life, there came an inflection point. What good is having all this knowledge if you aren't able to help those you care about?

Or for that matter, as many people as we can?

At AlloVitae we have a vision to change people’s lives through movement. Movement is yours and it is human to move. But there are barriers to movement when joint pain is present. We aim to help you remove as many of those barriers as we can.

It is a movement of movement, so to speak. We chose the name based on the specific language of our founding principles. The latin prefix of ‘allo’ , which means ‘different’ or ‘variance’, synonymous with change, is a thinly veiled reference to a fundamental principle in physiology called ‘Allostasis’ - which is our body’s ability to consistently stabilize its own state through constant variance and the dynamism of it’s internal systems. Or more simply put, ‘stability through change’.

Vitae harkens to the symbol of life, the ‘Arbor Vitae’, and denotes a deeper connection to a purposeful life and our human existence. When combined, AlloVitae is an expression that literally translates to ‘changed life’ or 'live differently'.

The AlloVitae functional trinity, which we apply to any human system to reduce pain and improve quality of life, are:

Mobility

Strength

Coordination

In the simplest terms, these are the roots of movement and pain free movement, especially. And a very important aspect is that these three things are intricately linked and interwoven with one another - a lack of one will directly affect the other two.

By progressively mastering and improving these three things, you can reduce pain while simultaneously enhancing function - which is the core of what AlloVitae is here to do - change your life through better movement. This philosophy has proven itself not only effective, but necessary in the most extreme environments for human movement - professional sport, Olympic sport, and elite military special forces - and it is the foundation for healthy living in general populations, too.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide access to safe, effective, movement based joint pain management through simple strategies that you can do anywhere, forever, that work. We want more healthy people in this world. We want people to live better. We want people to change their lives for good.

While my belief that movement is the key to feeling better is a personal philosophy, it has also been shown again and again in literature that movement improves our quality of life, our longevity, our mental function and our emotional well being. To move is to be human. And whether it’s simply reducing your pain when you walk up and down the stairs or getting back to enjoying your favorite activities - gardening, basketball, pickleball, dance, walking, archery, underwater basket weaving, whatever it may be, at AlloVitae we believe that movement will change your life, and we invite you to explore our site and change your life with us.
